Tim, well, I am using VMware for quite some time now and I haven't changed the configuration when I removed my ethernet card and installed the aironet adapter. I am using bridged as well, however, right now I gotta use host-only with nat. Kernel is straight from Redhat 7 (2.2.16-22), all patches applied. The VMWare session does not get any response from our DHCP server, that is the first thing I noticed after I started my testing, the DHCP Server does get the DISCOVER request though, but it's response ends up lost ... Maybe our only difference is, that we are using an access point and not ad-hoc mode. It really looks like an AP problem to me, from what I gather from your info ... Ronny >>> Tim Kennedy <tke...@ye...> 24.01.01 17:09:04 >>> Is there anything in particular that you do strangely with your VMWare that normally wouldn't be done? I have a whole office of people that use VMWare, with Aironet 340 cards, and everything is working for us. We use an adhoc network, since right now we are using a PCM340 in a laptop, with a dhcp server. We use the 2.4.0 kernel, with pcmcia-cs 2.1.23 or 2.1.24. We configure VMware not to use host-only networking, but rather to use bridged networking, and use win98/ME/2000 clients. The vmware/windows clients pump their own dhcp adresses, and everything seems to work just fine. How can I tell what MAC addresses are in the AP table? In other words, what is the AP table, and how do I see it? :) -Tim On Wed Jan 24, 2001 at 02:54:16PM +0100, Ronny Bremer wrote: > Jim, > > Anyway, I agree with what you say. I do not see the VMWare MAC address in the AP table. Question is, can the AP put into promisc mode too somehow? Otherwise I would never be able to operate any kind of sniffer equipment (even if it sounds silly) on the RF network. > > Even if the AP acts like a bridge between Ethernet and radio, it should be able to recognize new MAC addresses on both sides. In theory at least. But I think nobody at Aironet/Cisco ever dreamed of any such usage. > -- Timothy Kennedy Network Operations Manager YellowBrix, Inc. tke...@ye... Cell: 703-216-5957 |
