Ah ok, thanks. Good to see that it still works by design (USE_LOCALE is 
only defined when configure is run --with-locale).

That looks a lot like the way Microsoft VC++ handles it. :-) For the 
time being, this is a moot point. We don't have any up-to-date 
translations of the strings. Since gettext does not have static version, 
the code you suggested could come in handy when we do though.
