Bugs item #838813, was opened at 2003-11-09 17:08 Message generated for change (Comment added) made by andim2 You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=543745&aid=838813&group_id=75380 Category: None Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 9 Submitted By: Jonathan Preston (thespleen) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Box locks up hard when setting ip address RH9 and DWL650+ Initial Comment: I have a DWL650+ running on a laptop with RH9. The access point is a DI614+. The driver installs OK and I can issue iwconfig commands. Driver version is 0.2pre5 Eg iwconfig wlan0 mode Managed rate 22M channel 6 key 'whatever the key is' essid Preston After I have done this I issue an ifconfig wlan0 192.168.0.50 netmask 255.255.255.0 at which point the system locks up and can only be switched off and rebooted. The log is below. Nov 8 18:14:31 preston kernel: acx100: It looks like you were coaxed into buying a wireless network card Nov 8 18:14:31 preston kernel: acx100: that uses the mysterious ACX100 chip from Texas Instruments. Nov 8 18:14:31 preston kernel: acx100: You should better have bought e.g. a PRISM(R) chipset based card, Nov 8 18:14:31 preston kernel: acx100: since that would mean REAL vendor Linux support. Nov 8 18:14:31 preston kernel: acx100: Given this info, it's plain evident that this driver is EXPERIMENTAL, Nov 8 18:14:31 preston kernel: acx100: thus your mileage may vary. I have a desktop system running RH9 with a DWL520+ which works fine but I am at a loss with this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks John ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Andreas Mohr (andim2) Date: 2003-12-02 12:37 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=132674 Feel free to use e.g. pre6_plus_fixes_6 tar, this will fix our locking, at least temporarily. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Andreas Mohr (andim2) Date: 2003-11-22 14:06 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=132674 Problem seems to happen because of nested spin_lock_irqsave()s (didn't know that this is an evil thing to do - I assumed it just increases the refcount when same process). A fix is in the works, should be fixed in pre7. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Jonathan Preston (thespleen) Date: 2003-11-17 22:09 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=845975 Have tried pre6_plus_fixes and get the same lock up when setting ifconfig. The debug level was set to 0x0f. Log is below.
