All Geek.Net network outage 2010-01-01 07:05-08:15 UTC

January 1st, 2010

All Geek.Net sites experienced just over one hour of downtime 07:05-08:15 UTC today due to an unlikely outage of two mutually-redundant network components. The problem has been resolved and Network Operations is making changes to prevent such failures in the future.

2009-12 & 2010-01 Holiday support coverage

December 18th, 2009

Hi all,

Geeknet will be observing the Christmas holiday next week. We will be closed fromĀ  Wednesday December 23 (2009-12-23) through Friday December 25 (2009-12-25). In this time, we will be providing “holiday coverage”. We will be parking all non-urgent support issues that come in via our Trac facility. We will address these tickets on our return Monday, December 28 (2009-12-28).

We are also observing the New Years holiday and will be closed on Thursday December 31 (2009-12-31) and Friday January 1 (2010-01-01). Any non-urgent support tickets will be parked for attention on our return on Monday January 4 (2009-01-04).

While we are on holiday, we closely monitor the site and actively engage any issues broadly impacting the site.

We hope this year has been fruitful and productive for you all in your Open Source efforts. It has been a pleasure working and growing with this community all year. We wish you a safe and happy holiday and look forward to more growth and exciting OSS innovation.

Cheers!

Daniel Hinojosa for all of the Geeknet family.

Community forums removed from site 2009-12-12

December 12th, 2009

Hi folks,

Earlier this week, we removed the community forums from the site. We strongly encourage folks to join our IRC channel on Freenode.net, #sourceforge, to continue the conversation in a community of other interested Open Source developers.

Best regards,

Mercurial Updates 2009-12-10

December 10th, 2009

The Service Operations Group has made some notable change to Mercurial on the site:

  • Upgraded to 1.4.1 on the server side
  • Stats anomaly for Hg has been fixed
  • Users no longer need to set their email address to a specific value in their client configuration

There will be some other minor changes coming in this area soon.

Cheers!

Stats update

December 8th, 2009

We’re still processing about 2 days worth of back-log on in the statistics system. This means that stats for the site for items like web hits and downloads will be delayed by 2 days. We expect stats to be fully caught up in about a week’s time, assuming the current rate of completion. We will post more information when it becomes available.

Thanks!

Database OOM errors – resolved

December 2nd, 2009

We have located and eliminated the root cause of the out of memory (OOM) errors we were receiving from our PostgreSQL server. Expecting this issue has finally been resolved. All systems (including stats) are running.

Stats is still catching up. Will make a separate post when that is completed.

Thanks!

Stats returns

December 1st, 2009

We’re still seeing OOM errors, but have brought the statistics back online. It’ll take some time to get back to current. No ETA when it will be current, but will post again once we achieve current stats.

Thanks!

2009-11-26: Site back and operational / Stats offline

November 26th, 2009

The database migration to new hardware was completed. We were still seeing problems with the database, though, so we have taken the stats system offline in the interim in order to ensure the site stays stable over the holiday weekend. There is no current ETA for when stats will be back and operational.

Thanks!
