huge amounts of bogus search results (99.9%) due to OR

Reported by: jmichae3 Owned by: ctsai
Keywords: ENGR NF-2835 FORGE P3 Cc:
Private: no

try searching for anything with more than 1 keyword and you will see what I mean. it frustrates users to no end.

search results are so useless I can't get anything that resembles ANDed results. I think it uses OR. this is a BIG mistake. it makes this the age of the human filter. in fact, the search box for sf.net's main page where you search for software has the same problem, but at least on that you can specify the AND keyword (you shouldn't have to).

yahoo learned long ago that search engines based on ORing keywords are something people don't like and give huge amounts of bogus results, so they switched to AND. google started by ANDing keywords right off - that's how yahoo learned. I hope sf.net learns too.

please fix the search engines EVERYWHERE in sf.net.
the forums, discussions, the main page, anywhere there is a search box that can take keywords. thanks. I submitted a bug report about this once before I think, but nothing was done.

thanks. I think a lot of people will breathe a sigh of relief and smile if you implement this.

SAVES MONEY: it will also reduce your bandwidth by a HUGE amount possibly and save lots of bandwidth costs!

by the way, with that link I gave, if I were to AND all the words, they appear nowhere in the search results' contexts. some of the pages have absolutely nothing to do with the subject and are so unrelated that there is no way that all the keywords are in that document.

example: from search results: https://sourceforge.net/projects/camprocessor/forums/forum/339677/topic/3454162?message=7756940

this whole result is based on 1 word.

This is unlikely to be fixed in the classic SourceForge system, but I've logged this as an issue to be evaluated for the SourceForge 2.0 Beta (aka. Allura) system: http://sourceforge.net/p/allura/tickets/3493/
