SemanticScuttle is a open-source social bookmarking web application allowing advanced tagging features.
SemanticScuttle is based on Scuttle (an open-source clone of Del.icio.us whose development is frozen today).
A social bookmarking tool like Del.icio.us allows users to collectively bookmark webpages indexing them with tags (i.e. terms freely chosen). Some of the greatest advantages of tagging systems are :
- they are easy to use,
- they quickly create a lot of metadata about webpages,
- they are really efficient to find popular pages about a subject on the web.
However, these aspects can be improved with some new features about the organization of tags, or interactions between users.
Based on Scuttle, SemanticScuttle is a tentative to explore new exciting features.
Documentation
To start using SemanticScuttle and tuning it up, a wonderful documentation file :

Features
Present
basic level :
- Add bookmarks associated to tags
- Del.icio.us-like API
- Firefox extension in order to quickly tag through the browser
See also Advanced Features.
Future
The (not totally decided) foreseen features of SemanticScuttle are :
- hierarchical tags : a way to easily tag tags in order to organize them.
- collaborative descriptions : a common place for users to describe resources. Del.icio.us implements personal comments. We think small communities need also a kind of wiki space to build up collective knowledge.
- OpenId authentification : a social bookmarking tool is just a piece among others web 2.0 applications. A modern authentification mecanism is needed.
