Introduction and Overview: (Purpose and Functionality)
Intern Tracker is more than a system for tracking interns, it is a system of formalized communication and expedited information among several uniquely interested parties. The very concept of an Internship has been implemented as a computerized system. Three entities of interest are represented by default:
- Educational Supervisor
- Job Supervisor / Company Contact
These three are examples rather than concrete concepts. They are classes of represented individuals, and as such have varying degrees of optional involvement in each internship. In some cases, these classes may even overlap (example: Intern is working for the professor who is also administrating his internship for the school). The system must have a high degree of flexibility for these circumstances to be permitted, but at the same time we don't want to deluge the customer with an overwhelming number of options. To that end, we are striving for a common middle-ground default configuration that can be easily customized in manageable segments. To be sure we are providing that we will regularly seek the insight of our initial customers, the IT department of Georgia Southern University, when we have new features to present.
