Indeed it's resolved — as I notified: the error message was somewhat misleading.

It seems you're right: upgrading the libssh2 package to libssh2-1.11.1-x86_64-1_slack15.0.txz made it possible to pass „configure” stage. I had earlier version installed before, in Slackware there's no separation for „normal” and „dev” packages. Always both binaries for direct use and headers/libs for compilation are installed. But maybe that earlier version wasn't properly packaged and was lacking something? Anyway the error I described was misleading; if there was a problem with libssh2 dependency...
