Is there a way to get higher baud rates with the 6850 ACIA, in the same way as you do it for the 6551, as I understand it, by disabling the on-board crystal and providing your own clock (correct me if I'm wrong)?

OK, now it works - stupid me. It was indeed a matter of selecting the generic card. It only works with one of the CCS cards though, as suspected the second one is defective and I will have to swap chips to find out what is wrong. But that's for later when I get back home from my conference. Thanks for all the work! What is lying ahead before this is turned into a release version?

Oh, I did not use the left or right arrow keys to select another type of card if that is what you mean - I don't remember exactly what the software mentioned as the default. Sorry about that; reading instructions carefully is something that I tend to skip when I have little time, like this afternoon. I'll try again tomorrow. Speed was indeed set to 19200 and the cards are in slot 2. But the different behaviour of the two cards is worrying - one of them is maybe broken.

I briefly tried the new code, without luck. I succesfully made a boot disk with the CCS code but I see the following problems with ADTPro 2.0.2: ADTPro serial configuration with my FTDI USB to serial adapter: /dev/cu.usbserial-FTGE7F0D 19200 baud or /dev/tty.usbserial-FTGE7F0D 19200 baud (I tried both). With CCS card #1 (in slot 2): I get the usual menu with choices when I boot, but this happens: send: waiting for host reply, then host timeout, then a sound when a key is pressed receive: waiting...

I'm away from my II+ until second half of next week. Once I get back, I'll try your new code and will report. Thanks!

I have not used virtual drives because I only have the audio connection working (I fixed it with a new USB audio device, the previous one was not working properly). But when I read about it, it seems like a nice thing to have. If space is a problem, I can work around virtual disks with the ciderpress utilities that I compiled on my mac. They allow me to manipulate the contents of disk images. See http://a2ciderpress.com. But it's a bit cumbersome. Thanks for all the work that you put into this!

I compared the two versions of the manuals, describing rev. B and rev. C of the cards. Schematics and components lists are identical, so we can assume that the only differences lie in the firmware. The manual for rev. B describes two different versions of the firmware: 7710-01 and 7710-02. There is also a patched version of 7710-02, named 7710-03 that makes it compatible with the IIe. Version 7710-01 is compatible with the IIe. I compared the firmware listing of rev. C with rev. B 7710-01 and found...

Note that there are manuals out there for several revisions of the card, as can be seen here: http://mirrors.apple2.org.za/Apple%20II%20Documentation%20Project/Interface%20Cards/Serial/CCS%207710/Manuals/. I happen to have two cards: one borrowed from a friend sitting in his IIe that I am using to fix my own machine (a II+) by swapping stuff, and that I need to return once my machine is fixed, and the card in my own machine. The first one is rev A according to the labels, and my card is apparently...
