    tl;dr Reverting my Debian 12 machines to rsyslogd / actual files in /var/log/ Just posting this for anyone else running Debian 12 (or anything else that insists on using systemd journal for all logging). I decided to go a bit nuclear and use this persons blog: https://www.going-flying.com/blog/debian-bookworm-journald.html Venting a bit - but good heavens I shouldn't have to fight this hard to operate on logs.

    Yes the drift I mention - I was referring to Debian. I will check out that discussion. I also cut a snapshot of a VM, removed the debian package, and tries 7.7 from source. Same behavior :( Thanks for your quick response.

    Hello all, I have been using logwatch for over a decade (maybe two ?). Has always worked beautifully. I recently bit the bullet and took my Debian 10/11 machines to 12. Hoo boy. Is this just me - or is this excruciatingly difficult using journalctl ? Here are some of my issues: What is the empty LogFile = for ?
