I didn't find a lot of discussions about the topic, and this is one of the first that came up on Google, so I'm dropping by to add my observations. I tried to compress a 500 MB folder of 500 KB image files. I made a solid archive, using LZMA2, ultra compression, 512 MB dictionary and 273 word length. Using 1 thread instead of 8 barely made any difference. The resulting file was around 120 MB. I also tried enabling the delta filter, but it actually made it worse, so I suppose it doesn't fit the data...
Ok so: Output type does seem to change something. The behaviour I described above seems to happen mainly with ASIO output, and it may be unrelated with other crackling issues. Indeed, disabling and re-enabling Equalizer APO on Voicemeeter with the configurator seems to make crackling issues disappear more or less randomly, like previous users already mentioned, as long as Voicemeeter output is set to WDM or MME. Also, changing output in Voicemeeter while Equalizer APO is enabled often (but not always)...

Just tested with ReaEQ VST instead of the native graphic EQ. For some reason, ReaEQ barely increases init time, unlike most effects, and it doesn't cause crackling.
I have crackling issues too. I've tried changing all sorts of setting in Voicemeeter, changing the output, buffer lengths, sampling rate, etc, it doesn't solve the issue. What does solve the crackling, for some reason, is disabling most effects in Equalizer APO. Gain and filters don't cause problems, but equalizer and external VST plugins immediately cause crackling. It seems to be correlated with the Init. time value.
