Looks like changing from the Nouveau driver to a Nvidia driver fixes this.

Did a screen shot of the startup log in the journal if that will tell you anything else. Let me know if you need the full listing but it's rather long.

OK, the LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1 setting does not matter. If I open a terminal and just type beebeep and enter it usually gets that error. But if I keep doing it after about 3 or 4 times beebepp comes up and runs just fine.

Have a longer log file . .

Unfortunately since it does not start up there is no log. . . Then I actually got it to run by doing: LIBGL_ALWAYS_SOFTWARE=1; beebeep. But I had to try it several times. I tested it and it works. Sent and received beeps. While it was running I got the log file.

I see I used the deb package to install 5.8.6 originally
