I am experimenting with HandBrake, extracting an MP4 from an ISO DVD file. The Q (quality) is certainly challenging: I have ended up with an MP4 output about twice as large as the ISO input. Suffice to say that I will never use Placebo quality anymore!
Hello all: I understand the basics of quality and file size: we have X number of pixels horizontally and Y vertically. Then there is the bit depth (I was surprised to notice that 8 bits seems to be rather common, long deprecated in still images). We should multiply those numbers by the number of Frames per Second. I have seen some software (Movavi Suite 16) that seems to perform magic, converting a lower quality to higher quality. I guess they interpolate the pixels of missing frames, taking a video...
I just discovered MediaInfo, it is a gem. I would like to encourage its users to contact the MP4 producers and request them to include parameters such as: Writing application (HandBrake includes it, Adobe does not) etc., etc. Incidentally, that parameter "Writing application" is something standard in MP4s or was created by HandBrake? Thanks for developing and supporting all these tools!
