    I found my issue!! Thanks Sverre for responding. Anyways, it was the screen saver setting within XFCE. I did a xset -q in a terminal window and looked over the current X config and noticed the screensaver had a 5 minute timeout. I went into the Settings -> Screensaver and disabled the Screensaver then tabbed to Lock Screen and disabled that too. Not sure why the screensaver is not working, but at least it solved my issue. I am not sure if it solves the original poster's issue, but it may.

    I tried this today. I set the sysctl value on the linux command screen, then called startxfce4. No difference. The keyboard and mouse stopped working after a few minutes of idle time :(

    This is happening to me also. All background jobs are running fine. Wallpaper changes, notifications, etc. Mouse clicks and keyboard do not respond after a period of time when not actively using the x-server. WSL2 (Windows Update is on) VcXsrv 1.20.8.1 WSL2 OS: Arch Linux xfce4 desktop environment 4.16 The WSL2 terminal window is working fine. I am using startxfce4 within the WSL2 terminal window to launch xfce4 desktop. Once the mouse clicks and keyboard stops responding, I can Ctrl-C to cancel...
