Thank you for this detailed explanation! You saved me a lot of confusion.
I upgraded to the latest VeraCrypt release, and have encountered an issue when using RustDesk. I regularly access the Windows 10 machine in question remotely, so this is a big issue for me. The GUI doesn't show up on the remote desktop viewer at all. What changed with VeraCrypt from the last release to the latest, and is there a way to fix this? Thank you for any info.
This whole story confirms the reason why I left Windows for Linux. Microslop has no clue wtf they're doing.
Anyone have an issue with the windows version? I can't get the UI elements to appear at all. Program is running according to task manager. It's like the UI for veracrypt is invisible.
I was thinking the .ssh folder is hidden, but it actually isn't. The one in \programdata is I think. I checked the permissions between both directories, and they appear the exact same. All users on my machine have full control for the folder and subfolders. I don't think it's a permissions issue.
I checked, and found fast boot is off. I moved the file container to a new non-hidden folder, and mapped the new directory for the correct location in veracrypt. After rebooting, the file mounts automatically, and takes the password correctly the first time. I also turned off the setting you suggested to not mount all device-hosted volumes since I do not currently have encrypted disks on this system. Thank you for helping clarify the difference between encrypted file containers, and actual disks...
Thanks for the help. Maybe this has something to do with the fact that my encrypted volume is stored in a hidden directory? I think the ~\User.ssh folder is hidden in windows.
Thanks for the help.
