A new image converter now supports PIC2: https://codeberg.org/kaleido/wuimg Since there now exists a converter for it, and based on the complexity of the format, you could probably close this issue.

Since filing this request, deark has added support for all the 'known' RGFX files that we could locate. Since there is a modern converter now for this format, it's far less priority to add it into recoil. So you could close this request if you'd like :)

By the way, I had asked about this support for deark a while ago: https://github.com/jsummers/deark/issues/47 Sadly it wasn't able to be added due to not the compression being XPK based and that being a big thing to tackle. Perhaps it's out of scope for recoil too. This code supports many XPK compressions schemes, so you could leverage that for the XPK decompressiong if libancient.so is available on ths system recoil is being built on: https://github.com/temisu/ancient

After setting the system to 640x400x256 mode, I no longer get an error in RAG-D and they appear just as you decode them in recoil2png (see attached INTRO_256RAG-D.png and MENU_256RAG-D.png). I loaded up C256.RAG in RAG-D and it seems to load ok (C256_RAG-D.png) I haven't been able to get Music Compile 2 to get past the MENU screen, nor can I interact with it in any way. I renamed C256.RAG to INTRO.RAG but Music Compile 2 didn't load it. I renamed GLORIOUS.RAG to INTRO.RAG and loaded up Music Compile...

So trying to load them in RAG-D 1.2.5b fails with attached image RAG-D_error.png "Something's false! Picture has 640x399 and 8 planes" I loaded up the original program, looks to be called: Music Compile 2 I've attached a picture of what MENU.RAG and INTRO.RAG look like in the program. Having said that, it's quite possible that this hacked up format only exists for this 1 program, so I'm not sure if it's worth adding support for them or not.

Very low priority on this format, I've only encountered it on these 5 magazine CDs: https://archive.org/details/cg-network-4 https://archive.org/details/cg-network-6 https://archive.org/details/cg-network-7 https://archive.org/details/cg-network-8 https://archive.org/details/cg-network-9 Some additional research on the web just says that various applications on "japanese computers" of this era supported this format. Whoops, forgot to include those. But I just tested the web interface you have against all 75 Packed SHR files that I could find and they ALL WORK! So I'd say this is certainly complete! Thanks again!!

Excellent! I just tested all 1,387 sample files that I have. The only ones that failed were the ones that were corrupted or had garbage at the end. AMAZING work. Thanks again! You are doing really important work to help preserve these file formats for the future!!! If there is anything I can ever do, let me know!

Awesome! Just tested the last of the samples I have and found these final last fails: course.shp tgf2.shp thru tgf6.shp tgg1.shp tgg2.shp tgg5.shp tgg6.shp tgg7.shp I attached as lastFails.zip In that same zip are additional tgf and tgg files that SUCCEEDED, just so you can compare. Let me know if you want me to try and get a screenshot for course.shp

    I found 4 more files that have failed attached as moreFailed.zip shapes.shp : Appears to be from the same program as blocks.shp smash.shp : I included a screenshot of this as smash.png mr. happy.shp : I think it's hires? A garbled screenshot mr. happy.png geochart.shp : I think it's the screenshot geochart.png

  • Robert Schultz Robert Schultz posted a comment on ticket #70

Couldn't get a screenshot for blocks.shp. The game won't load up. Attached is a screenshot of what I think is display.shp is used for, but I could be wrong. It's not clear which program uses which files.

  • Robert Schultz Robert Schultz posted a comment on ticket #70

Note, I can't be sure that the above failed.zip SHP files are ACTUALLY SHP images. They may just be files that from Loadstar that also happen to have the .SHP extension. Also, none of the failed SHP files were viewable in the C64 converter program. I tried loading up some of the Loadstar disks directly to see if I get you some screenshots. I've attached failedScreenshots.zip which have what I think are what the pictures should look like, but I'm not certain since it isn't clear what program views...

  • Robert Schultz Robert Schultz posted a comment on ticket #70

Awesome! The vast majority of the SHP files convert. I've attached a failed.zip file containing 18 files that did not convert with the web converter.

  • Robert Schultz Robert Schultz posted a comment on ticket #70

Ahh interesting, yes. syria.shp loads right up in the STB converter and is detected as a Shape HiRes file and is viewable. Whereas the ones in hires.zip won't load int he STB converter, so they must be 'something else' :) I'm very excited that you were able to get the first 2 formats added!

  • Robert Schultz Robert Schultz posted a comment on ticket #70

Attached is hires.zip which includes 3 .shp files and PNG screenshots of them in the Loadstar viewer. I tried loading them in the STB Converter, garbaled. I tried converting them into SHP but they ended up just being garbled as well.

  • Robert Schultz Robert Schultz posted a comment on ticket #70

Attached is a zip file of intro01.shp and intro10.shp with .rpm conversions and .png (recoil2png from the RPM, but they look the same in the program)

  • Robert Schultz Robert Schultz posted a comment on ticket #70

I'll also attach other.zip which has SHP files that did not convert correctly. They were garbled visually in the program so I wouldn't trust the conversions it did to be correct. The program did call them HiRes, yet it also did not auto-identify it properly as a SHP file, so who knows. Maybe if you figure out the multiColor format, maybe these ones will be more clear.

  • Robert Schultz Robert Schultz posted a comment on ticket #70

The STB Print commodore program calls the SHP files 'Shape' files. The SHP format appears to have both Multi-color and Hi-Res support. The program allowed exporting in several formats: Format Ext Type ------ --- --------- SHP .shp Multi-color OR Hi-Res DOODLE! .dd Hi-res OCP .pic Hi-res JJ .jj Compressed Hi-Res Koala .koa Multi-color Advanced OCP .mpic Multi-color GG .gg Compressed Multi-color RunPaint-HR .rph Hi-Res RunPaint-MR .rpm Multi-color I've attached a multiColor.zip which includes the following...

Yup! I use Gentoo and maintain a custom ebuild for recoil, so it's pretty easy to update it: https://github.com/Sembiance/dexvert-gentoo-overlay/blob/master/media-gfx/recoil/recoil-6.1.1_p20220212.ebuild I just download a source snapshot, update the date, and that's pretty much it, Gentoo Portage takes care of the rest.

Just to chime in and say something like this would be great (JSON output format perhaps). However I realize it's a lot of new info to output, so I'd even love just a simple --verbose flag that would output which format it ended up converting as.
