Well, I have found the problem but no idea as to the caues. I decided to try a different SD card adapter, and that worked. Why the adapter would influence whether one image could be written correctly as opposed to another I can't imagine, but there it is :)

I don't know if I'm just an idiot, or what. I have several Pis - v1,2, & 3 - and cannot get any version of raspbx (raspbx-03-12-2017, raspbx-10-10-2017, raspbx-28-01-2017, raspbx-22-09-2016) to run, period. I can get Retropi and Raspbian to run on any of these machine, but using the same SD cards and Pis produces nothing but a black screen when I try to boot. My methodology: download raspbx, extract img, write img to 32GB SD card using unetbootin, insert card into pi connected to monitor, keyboard...

Phooey. I've tried re-downloading the zip and checking the SHA1, for both the current and the last couple images, and none of them will boot. RetroPi and Raspian both work just fine using the same SD card on the same Pi :( Any thoughts?

I know it isn't the zip card, as I can load retropi on it just fine.

Ah, that might be my mistake. I assumed the checksum was for the img, not the zip. I am writing it to the card. Originally I was using dd on my Debian box, but when that failed I also tried w32di on a win10 box. Both failed to boot; just a black screen and no response to a ping over the network interface :(

I have downloaded the two most recent images both directly and via torrent to no avail; they both have different SHA1 sums from what is listed on the download page and both (unsurprisingly) are not bootable.
