appreciate the help. while looking into customizing matchbox-keyboard i saw a post about onboard. found onboard in the synaptic app and installed and it is much better than matchbox. has easy to use setup app too

did find the matchbox-keyboard just do not see any numbers ors pecial character keys!

just downloaded the current version a few days ago. so it should be the new debian. i have searched in the synaptic app and other places for it. will see if i can get the matchbox-keyboard. thanks!

thanks for the quick reply. yeah i have a cordless usb keyboard, just think onscreen one may come in handy at times. i saw a thing about florence online and tried that but got an error message, tried your suggesting input and i got the same message; "unable to locate package florence"!?

i have searched everywhere i can think of to Enable the Onscreen Keyboard. i have an old netbook the keyboard has problems, it has touchscreen so i am hoping there is a way to get an onscreen keyboard working. i have tried everything i can find doing web searches but none of the suggestions work! thanks for any help you all can give....
