Hi Steve, Please accept my apology for inserting my post into another's thread. This was accidental. I will be more careful in the future. I formatted my USB drive as FAT32 (via Windows 7) and extracted the .zip to the USB drive as you instructed . The BIOS in the laptop requiring the new SSD does not appear to be UEFI. I find this surprising in that the laptop was purchased in late 2014. I can tell you it features a legacy boot mode and needs to be updated so I should take care of these issues before...

I am preparing to install a new mSATA SSD in my wife's laptop. The best choice appeared to be Kingtson. Imaging current Toshiba to Kingston will require Clonezilla. However, documentation presents a potential conflict and I want to ensure I make the LiveUSB correctly. General instructions state use the zipfile for USB. However, when using Rufus (I do) it states use iso w/Rufus. I donwloaded zipfile before noticing this then obtained iso. Please let me know. Rick

This would appear to be more straightforward if I was cloning to the same size disk. No such luck. I just purchased a 250 GB Samsung 860 Evo to ressurect an Asus 1000H netbook with LXLE. The 1000H is fine in this configuration even with the XP dual boot. However, the 32-bit system could not operate the software I need sufficiently.
