There is software for Astronomy called Sirus, I though you where suggesting that as something to try instread of Stellarium. I have no Alt control yet to point up and why the sun/shadow/rotation is a simple test but after you comment on the date I thought about is and Stellaruin is set for J2000 date where the conversion is using now, when we get some sun back I will set Stellerium to be JNOW and test again.

date is from system so is correct, it will point anywhere i like. Sirius looks like it's a purchase
Probably not really a Stellarium issue but I am using this as the source of RA/DEC, I expect it's my understanding of it. I have a Telescope mount that I have built to use Az/Alt for tracking and I am using the astropy python library to do the conversion from RA/DEC to Az/Alt and at this time I am just valiading to calculation work for Az. In the morning tell the scope to track to the sun (RTS2 interface) and rotate the mount to line up so I can check the shadow cast during the day as it travels...
