i am using steam version 1.02 PE warlord edition with dgvoodoo 2 here are my settings (btw game does start as a small square on top left but as you move mouse it will fix itself into the resolution you want). my monitor is 1440p so i lowered size a bit (center option does not work but 2533x1350 is centered for mine) edit: it will be harder to get it to run on dxwnd, i use it for some games but this one in particular does not like it and trust me i tried a lot of settings on win7 few years ago and...

try dgvoodoo 2 that one fixed it for me (on win 10)

edit: never mind, doesn't work with the steam version...

Probably my final update for this game -DXWnd version 2.03.84.fx1, windows 7 64, shogun gold steam version - also has mongol invasion expansion -on directX tab, primary surface: game works perfect on primary display driver, smooth textures and EVEN battles work! (the game is also an independent window and it's full screen borderless for instant alt tabbing but you can select any window size, position or coordinates based on your preferences) Only problem is the game will crash right after the intro...
