I have put the Clonezilla live ZIP file (clonezilla-live-2.7.0-10-amd64.zip) on a USB stick and followed the instructions. I have used that successfully to clone the harddisk and restore it. To make it a bit neater I wanted to install it directly onto the harddisk so I created a 1GB partition, and followed https://clonezilla.org/livehd.php, using the option under 5. A few days ago I cloned my 250GB disk to a 320GB disk (as it had to be the same size or larger and I didn't have another identically sized disk) as a backup and tested the 320GB disk to make sure that it booted (which it did). I've just broken the partitioning on the 250GB by trying to shrink the LVM partition and getting the numbers wrong.
