Yes, it's definitely related to me starting it from Xplorer2, regardless of where the location of MC is (I've tried moving it to a couple of "safe" locations, and it still has both the startup error and the episode name error). Starting it from Windows Explorer is fine, and doesn't produce errors. So creating a shortcut, as Rob suggested, is probably the work-around. (Thanks Rob! :) ) Seems odd though -- in terms of MC's programming -- that I've had no other issues like this with plenty of programs...
MC is running from the location C:\PortablePrograms\Media Companion 3.756b x64\ and /xplorer2 /is the Windows Explorer replacement (/located at //C:\Program Files\zabkat\xplorer2\/ ) that I use to browse the file system and invoke programs to run.
