I updated the patch file to add a new GUI option. I only can't quite figure out the Lang strings, so if we can do that, we can have this feature. This patch no longer changes the behavior of the "Extract to {0}" option, but adds a new "Smart Extract" option.
I created a patch which adds this feature as the new behavior to the 17.01 source when using the "Eliminate duplication" option. However, you probably want to create this as a new, though perhaps related option, since it changes the current behavior.
Still would like to contribute and get working on the ability to detect the need for a subfolder on extraction.
Archive files tend to fall into two categories, one with a single top-level file or folder which contains the rest of the files in the archive, and one which presents the (multiple) files directly without a top-level folder. For the former, I prefer the context menu option Extract Here, and for the latter, I prefer Extract to <Folder>. But, to know this, I have to first open the archive just to see the file structure.
