Ooof, sorry, I'd not set the 'argues that' for the position as well as the argument. Sorry. Thanks for your help!
I create a debate ('first debate') I create a position ('important position') I create an argument for that position in the 'where made' (Fred Smith, work = 'an argument for important position') I click on the counter argument tab and click new I set name to 'a counter argument', and against 'Argument, Smith's argument for an important position' under 'argues that' I put 'argument fails' I get the same error.
I'm still having problems, sorry. It's just this bit I'm not getting. . I'll do a walk through and try again.
Hi there, it's this bit here that I'm having problem with. It's not automatically populated from entering arguments against (as far as I can see) and I can't see how to add a counterargument here without the error mentioned above. I'm sure I'm missing something about how to use this area

Hi, could you please explain the counterargument tab and how to use, please? Say I have an argument ‘Smith’s argument for position_one’. The counter argument tab says (0) - if I navigate to it and click new, I can’t seem to enter anything that doesn’t result in ‘unable to modify record: there must be a corresponding verdict for every position / argument targeted by this record’.
