I also tested manually downgrading to libusb libusb-1.0.20 on my MacPorts (from 1.0.23), and it does seem to fix the issue with the dfu-utils for now!! Which means it's something to do with 1.0.20 vs 1.0.23 of libusb that's causing things to break.
