Well, I guess it is "right tool for a task" matter. FP does great as mind mapping software. Is it what you mean? Or there is a way to deal with nodes of multiple connections (not just single parent-child one), which I don't know, some technique?

Iteresting reading Knowledge Graphs. Mind maps are mentioned in P.S.

Yes I remember that one among others I had in comparison table (the table is lost unfortunately). For requirements at that time FP outscored yEd. Have to reconsider now. Thought mind map application could be based on graphviz. May be yEd actually is. Circular diagrams are cool when you need close look at all connections of cpecific node (which placed in centre)

I agree, for every task there is the best tool. FP is awesome software. It's just having a task a little different I would like to be able to use FP again. Actually I found FP while searching for general graphs tools. Those are usually libraries to be used in some custom software. Haven't found standalone program. Do you know one?

Sorry for necroposting. This is still an opened question. Those are about big amount of edges/links/connections between nodes. See picture. Thing is Tree structure isn't really suitable. It has to be something cloud-like (3D I mentioned - not necessery using OpenGL or something, may be just recentering all map around choosen node to clearly show many connections of it). So concept of root node isn't relevant as a consequence. Now I have to adapt structure heavily to be represented in tree-like manner....

Hello I think FP would benefit from having automatic layout features. Like those programs for graphs visual representation ~ like randelshofer.ch/treeviz or dendroscope.org ~ hyperbolic tree view ~ 3D (e.g. 3rd dimension to see relations between children nodes of different branches) ~ turn mindmap inside out (so central element becomes circle around everything) Personally I would set that one as default. Because interconnections matter a lot. And number of those more than links of regular mindmap....
