So, after running into some frustrating issues compiling the Media Mixer, I found out that the solution to most of the issues was fairly simple: add the -std=gnu++11 option to the OPTS line at the top of the Makefile. I ran into a couple of other issues - one of which I was able to fix on my own, and the other one that I'm still fighting.
