Yeah. I asked robin for more detail, he said it's not that Ardour opposes it, or prevents it, it's just that it won't work in some cases, and they don't want to deal with those cases (because it's not their problem - fair enough). I will try to upgrade my OS to 19.10 at some point, and try again then. But I guess the rest of KX-studio will break then...

from #ardour: [23:03] <rgareus> naught101: the issue is not with Ubuntu. It's a conflict between ardour and <some plugin> [23:03] <rgareus> naught101: a known issue, won't fix. [dynamically linked] GTK and QT plugins UIs are not supported by Ardour. [23:07] <rgareus> naught101: you may be abow to work around this.. but you're on your own there

Yeah, it appears to just work in jalv. Unrelated sidenote: the UI is tiny on my 2560x1440 screen - combined with the low-contrast UI, and it will be hard to use. Is there a way to scale it?

urgh, sourceforge is not having a good day. There is a missing message from email: OK. I tried your instructions, and it seemed to install correctly, and I could open the ardour session that I created with drumkv1 0.9.2. But when I try to open the UI, I get this error again: suil error: Unable to open UI library /home/nedcr/.lv2/drumkv1.lv2/drumkv1_ui.so (/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5Gui.so.5: undefined symbol: hb_font_funcs_set_nominal_glyph_func) [1] 11809 segmentation fault (core dumped) ardour...

I mean, I guess it's harfbuzz related, but all of the relevant libraries are install (default Ubuntu 18.10 versions - 1.8.8-2). Not sure if that's useful though.
