Using the gtk 3 branch Guitarix runs smoothly on my system with native drivers. I guess this can be closed when that branch is released.

Building gtk+3 branch fails

it seems to be worse when resizing the window so that it is larger than the plugins in the rack. If the window is clipping the plugin everything is faster. I tried commenting out drawing the watermark, but that didn't help. I'll continue exploring.

I am running with animations disabled. The slowness is particularly significant when using a split rack. Using a single-column improves things a lot.
