    I plan to analyze my novelty test videos in ToxTrac. My idea is to compare time spent in the center after the novel object is inserted to the arena in relation to the time in the center while the object is absent (during previous oft). Second idea is to create a zone where the object is and count how many times animal enters the zone or has contact with it (touches it?). What do you think of that approach? Or are there other standardized ways to analyze this test in ToxTrac? I will be grateful for...

    Hi Magnus! Here is video example showing the issue: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1c4NwksbHxYsmuXHsNXjufLvp1m6O6-7s/view?usp=sharing I know sometimes it is also possible to automatically detect arena, but I prefer to do it manually, I find it more reliable. Sometimes it's difficult to adjust the threshold for the automatic detection, I guess due to low contrast. Also, some animals jump on the walls and go out of the arena frame - that would probably affect the tracking results and visibility rate...

    Dear All I have two questions, that are kind of linked. 1) I have videos of mice in the open field arena but unfortunately in some of them arena is not located well and is placed a bit diagonally. How should I define my area in this case to avoid animal going out from the arena and not changing the arena dimensions? 2) I understand in the open field I need to have the animal visible in the arena at all times, as there is no refuge in which animal can disappear and when I have animal "invisible",...
