In case all else fails, go to GEOPROCESSING menu. Word to the wise from very penitent user.

I opened my mouth too soon. Seems that plain-out-of-the-box 7.7.0 Saga works fine with smaller NC grids, but fails with bigger ones. [I.e standard NOAA SST images of 44 MB]. This would be a disaster for all our carefully primed Saga GIS'ers. The directions you folks posted earlier went WAYY over this old man's head, and I'm sure will stymie many others. Is there an easier solution? I'll be turning to a new training resource by this winter, and need to make software choices.

Hi Lilian et al. -- just saw this dialogue. So glad I didn't see it at the beginning or it would have been frightening. So glad you figured out how to get around it, as i know how NC files are the bread-n-butter of metocean work. I quickly ran a quick check of any available NC examplars (99% of my atlas stuff is zipped/stored), and it ran like a charm. Well, it's good to see you're all still vigilant and hard at work. All my love from Florida. Murray Brown

Hi Joey, Welcome to the world of GIS. I recommend that you check this page: http://www.marinedataliteracy.org/#1B_Data_Tips: And follow all my recommendations. But especially the one about seeing the filename extensions. If you do this, then you can clearly see what's REALLY in your folder, and the actual filename assigned might be unexpected. Let me know if this helps. Murray Brown www. http://www.marinedataliteracy.org marinedataliteracy.org From: Joey joeymarkx@users.sourceforge.net Sent: Monday,...

Hi Fabio, My personal guru, Dr. Doug McLain, sent this info: I don’t know. Google gives several references. Mark, I understand your frustration. Please check item 1C about FILE NAME EXTENSIONS at http://www.marinedataliteracy.org/ : which I always preach to students. Filename extensions have caused much grief to many persons over the years. Have you turned them OFF? Also when you unzip you will find a new folder with the same name as the original zip, and of course this must be opened to see what you really have. Hi Jan, I wondered also about the file format. I went to the same source and downloaded a PKZIP file (just happened to be an island in the Antarctic) and it contained 10 TIF files when unzipped. One was coarser resolution than the other 9, but all could be opened easily and separately in Saga (latest). I don't know a thing about USGS data in this system (i.e. what it actually means), so I quit when it seemed Saga was having no trouble at all.
