First of all I have to correct myself - the bug (feature?) of my stock app disabling the sound screwed what I said about the other apps being able to disable the sounds - they are not able to disable the sounds, when API1 is enabled. Sorry about that confusion. I don't know why running the stock application gives those strange behaviours - it may be that it's changing the global volume via AudioManager, and leaving that set to muted when you switch to another application(?) If that would mute one...

With Camera1API enabled the test app shows the button to disable the sounds, but the setting will be ignored completely, switched it on/off several times and rebooted, always the same result (not working). With Camera2API enabled via build.prop the old/stable version had the button to disable sounds and it works (and the debug info shows that the API allows for disabling it in contrast to when it said 'no' with Camera1API). The test version then works the same. The following test works...

Same problem on my Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 with Android 6.0.1. I can perfectly disable camera sounds in the stock app, in the Footej app, in the Camera FV-5 app and probably in other apps I did not test. Little problem: Those apps are not as good as yours. Your app also says it cannot disable the sounds, but sometimes I do not hear any sounds (for example right now). I tried it now, rebooted the phone: OC has shutter sounds, went into my stock phone app and disable the sounds there, OC has no more sounds....
