I understand that for most practical purposes, they are binary compatible version to version as per https://mariadb.com/kb/en/library/mariadb-vs-mysql-compatibility/ But at the same time, in the same article -> That said, MariaDB has a lot of new options, extension, storage engines ... So just wondering if there any issues with Adminer + MariaDB that we need to be concerned about ?

64 MB only ? For images files thats ok. Per file. FOr me jupload's has been its chunking ability and allowing hundreds of files to be uploaded. Largest file that i have uploaded with jupload was a video file of about 30GB - a few of them. And image files - maybe about 2000+ with each about 5-10 Mb ...
