I'm sorry for the long delay before I answered your question. Since I don't have access to a Mac, only to the files sent from it, I haven't been able to try your request. My collegue has been busy with other urgent work and hasn't been able to try it either. We will try to get back to it as soon as possible. Do you have any news about this issue? We noticed 7zip supports file names with a " in its name. It is possible to view these files in the 7zip UI as well as rename files to contain a ". But...

I'm sorry for the confusion. I meant : is also not valid on a mac as in windows. It is not possible to create a file with a : in the filename.

A : in a file name is also not valid on a mac. So it is not possible to create such a file name. Is there any update on the status of this issue?

As far as I know, it is possible to use forward slash in file name on mac. The example file is created on a mac and it was possible to open the file in an editor. I'll see if I can provide you with an example that has a : in the filename.

    1) The examples are created by a colleague who has access to a mac. According to this post all Unicode characters are allowed. 3) I understand. What about a switch which tells not to use / or \ as a path separator? Or the ability to configure the path separator?

    1) I'm sorry, I can't answer that question. I don't own a Mac and have no experience with it. I'm as in the dark as you. 2) That is good news, we are looking forward to the release. 3) Will you consider an option to rename a file or folder in an archive (rn command), even if they contain slashes? Maybe switches could be used to specify: If you want to update a file or folder. If you want to use the provided value as is (keeping slashes) or interpret the slashes to add folders.

I'm sorry for the late reply. It took me a while to gather the information you requested. 1) It is possible on MacOS to create file names which contain characters that are illegal on Windows. The dmg is created using hdiutil. 2) The attached dmg contains a file with all illegal windows characters in its name. When extracting the file, all these characters are replaced by an underscore, except for the forward and backwards slash. Our goal is to create a zip archive which contains the original file...

You can find a dmg file example attached. As you will see, viewing the content of the dmg with 7zip will show the correct file name. Extracting the file is also no problem. But renaming a file in a zip to a name which includes a forward slash, adds a folder instead. The command I use to do this is: 7zip rn -y -bd archive.zip 'ample.txt' 'ex/ample.txt'
