Thanks Antti - that's very helpful. Part of my difficulty was that I was being too aggressive on my search radius. I've now had some limited success with the Stellarium approach and this led to my first successful night in the field last night ... at least until we got a snow shower ...

Has anyone had any success with generation of artificial starfields to use in testing AT? I've got the system working but don't want to use valuable imaging time in the field in getting experience, fine tuning the software and selectively removing unnecessary index files. I've tried using Stellarium (removing object labels, constellation and coordinate lines) and screen saving but no success as yet ...
