I confirm the boot problem is fixed in Clonezilla stable - 2.8.0-27 and one computer was able to boot. If and when i get a chance, i will try to boot more machines, to confirm on more hardware. @steven_shiau, what was causing clonezilla not to boot?
Sorry for late answer, i am now extremely busy. make a bootable flash disk. I recommand using https://www.ventoy.net/en/index.html. You can upload a lot of system images there, which you can then boot. No more one flashdisk per system. upload https://www.system-rescue.org to your flash disk and boot from it when prompted what way you want to boot, choose second choice - copy to ram. You can then remove the flash disk and use it for something else, system rescue will stay in RAM. startx # starts GUI...

Not a full clonezilla solution. Currently working workaround is to boot "System Rescue" and run clonezilla from there. That works at the moment.
Hi everyone, any ideas why clonezilla won't boot on new Dell laptop 5420 (Intel Core i5)? I always end up with error messages like (see attached image) "rcu_sched self-detected stall on CPU" "watchdog: bug: soft lockup CPU#stuck for 22s [systemd-udevd]" This goes on for ~15 minutes, then Clonezilla seems to boot, but it is extremely slow and full of error messages, basically unusable. 1. the laptop is new. 2. flashing different BIOS versions does not help. 3. booting different versions of Clonezilla...
