I experienced this same thing using the latest versions of R-studio and R, running under windows 10 on a NextBook (which by the way may not permit 64 bit - not sure I did not see that loaded even though I requested it). I do hope a resolution is found. When tried Martyn's suggestion and switched the Rstudio option from "my systems default 32-bit simulator" to what I thought might have been a 64 bit version (just indicated R3.4.0)" R-studio no longer functions and I see no other option than to uninstall...
