Thank you for a quick and in depth reply Urs !! Being a newbie to tagging, this helped my understanding a lot. I now understand the difference between id3v2.x (for mp3) and Vorbis (for flac). As my music collection is 99.9% flac, you're right - I will not be so interested in ID3. Thank you also for a speedy fix :-) Solves my challenge.

Thanks for a great tagger :-) I often have multiple identical tags in music files. e.g. multiple artist, multiple genre etc. In the example below I have two comment tags of value"Alfa" and "Beta". Using kid3-cli I am unable to get and set exacly the second comment. I am able to do so using the kid3 GUI. Have I overlooked something?
