Interestingly, it's possible to shoot sequences of raws, e.g. via exposure bracketing or by enabling the saving of all frames for a HDR shot. The device does not get stuck (at least not my OnePlus Nord, running OpenCamera 1.53.1).
'the app is stuck': a white frame appears around the preview; the preview image freezes (the photo preview does not change when the phone is moved), however the clock overlaid on the preview keeps ticking. 'Back' navigation takes me to the launcher screen; switching back to the app provides a live preview again. When the preview is frozen, the cogwheel icon takes me to the settings screen. 'Back' from the settings screen returns to the preview, which is no longer frozen.
HedgeCam2 (which, I believe, is an OpenCamera fork) also works.
