i couldn't completely understand ur reply - sorry. the only thing i could understand is that there is some technical reason due to which space can't be allowed. so, how about -o= then? e.g. -o=Directory. the tab autocompletion still works in this. will this be affected by the problem u shared above too?? Tangentially: how are file/folder names having name like "-oDirectory" handled by 7z? Yes, I just tried, - and = are both valid in the file/folder names atleast on windows.

Can extract all files avoiding this {root} directory using 7-zip only? why command line doesnt support it??? If i could navigate to subdirectory i would extract from there using something like 7z x d:\ZipFiles\vlc-1.0.5-win32.7z\vlc?1.?.?\ -od:\test i cant understand this, umh, can u try to rephrase?

Rewriting reasons, as it didnt render as lists earlier: Reasons: Addresses for FOLDER & other arguments can be entered super quickly using tab autocompletion Consistency with how other tools behave (compilers, make etc), e.g. cc -o hi hi.c ∴ better and expected UX for new and experienced users alike ( ref: https://sourceforge.net/p/sevenzip/discussion/45797/thread/b27bd668/#ba22 ) Improved readability in scripts

hey seldom god, i couldnt get the wildcard to work with -o. It threw following error when run into a folder with no subfolders. Command Line Error: Unsupported command: Is it normal wildcard and requires a folder to be there? I thought that it would automatically apply the package name to folder.
