Yes I understand that clipping is the cutting off at a certian level but if the db level is set at 96 & the track is at 80db then why is it clipping, unless the orginal recording clipped anyway there is no reason this should happen. The clipping was occuring when no gain was applied to the track Didn't understand the analogy at all!

Hello First post but have been trawling through trying to find the answer See attached jpeg for info - sorry about the music content but I'm old! ;) I started the track analysis with the DB set at 89 but after readin many posts most seem to think 95/96 was a better level. There was a lot of clipping at 89db so expected this to reduce when using 96db but it didn't Can anyone explain (simply) when using 96db as a default why a track is clipping when it's set below this?
