Yes, I am not owning the host name anymore.
Thank you for the feedback. Unfortunately there is no support for finding files using properties such as Author.
The check box tells if the drive or directory is included or not. So, to remove it, uncheck the checkbox and update the database.
Locate32_18.104.22.16820a_fix is a fix build by a user of Locate32 and was compiled in a way that it need Visual Studio 2013 redistributed files. You can find it here (look for Visual Studio 2013 VC++ Redistributable): https://www.visualstudio.com/vs/older-downloads/ Other programs you will use might also use the same library and install it for you. So perhaps you can install other necessary programs first and then see if you still need to download and install this package.
You could check database settings to check if all looks fine and the database is stored into a directory where your user account can create fliles. But the database file is created after all files are scanned. So wondering if that hanging will interrupt the scanning. Is the database created if you exclude the NAS drive?
Searching content from the file is not very educated and is just a very simple algorithm. It does not support logical operations, but regular expressions should work. I am not so familiar with regular expressions but should "cat|dog" work for OR searchers? Regular expressions are handled by the PCRE library.
I don't have problems with the help file or a change to test this, but perhaps this is helpful for other people.
Ok. Then you could use GUI for searches or use locate.exe. For GUI, it is perhaps a good idea to check "Disable updating (information from database)" option (or something like that, I don't remember exact name) in Advanced settings.
