Hi Marcus, I have been wondered if anyone is using this? The IRS added a couple lines to the f1116 since I did this work in 2020. There are also changes to the line numbers of the f1040 which effect the import script and the descriptions in the GUI. I'm attaching an updated tar file with the changes. It is worth pointing out that the poppler_form program uses the standard IRS f1116.pdf so anyone could do these updates in the future. Here is the diff from the last version: ~/temp$ diff -ur OTS_contrib.2...

I had assumed that this was a problem with the pdf.dat file. But I looked at the pdf.dat file and it has the barcode. Has this already been fixed? If not it may be a problem with the meta.dat file writing putting a field over the barcode. Is the string VA076019888 in the out.txt from the solve step? I should also have mentioned that I could generate a new pdf.dat file. I was doing that when I thought about checking what the existing file produced.

Hi Rich, I have been playing with alternative methods to fill pdf forms. In particular I have been working on support for the F1116 foreign tax credit. As part of this work I wrote a new program poppler_form which can fill fillable pdf files using the standard goverment issue pdf. The VA-760 is a fillable form so poppler_form might work for you. You can find my poppler_form work by looking for the new feature ticket I posted for F1116. I'm working on a python script to convert the meta.dat that the...

Hi Fred, The poppler_form uses the PDF convention of (x,y) origin at the lower left corner and the measurements are in points ~= 1/72 inch. The CoordReference in the universal modifier is setup to use pixels and the existing meta.dat files uses 110 dpi with the origin somewhere in the upper left. Each line in the CoordReference gives the a point in each system and is used to translate the pixels into the standard PDF coordinates. I started writing this and then I got the bright idea to test what...

Here are f8606 and f8889 pdf.dat files. They work with the univeral modifier. I created these with a little python script I will also attach. You might want to look at the poppler_form program which I posted earlier in this thread. It would also fill these forms using the standard federal tax forms. With a fillable form it avoids having to create the meta data by hand. Even if you want to use the pdf.dat approch the poppler_form -d option may be useful to create the meta data. It prints the coordinates...
