I had the same problem. I solved it by enabling Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access > GrandPerspective. These guardrails seem to be a fact of life with recent macOS releases like the Sequoia 15.5 I'm using. Ideally the app can request for the needed permission instead of just hanging. More details: Logging showed that it was always being stuck on one of two folders, either ~/Music/Music or ~/Pictures/Photos Library.photoslibrary. Scanning just these folders made it easily reproducible....
