In Clonezilla, choose either the disk copy or for backups choose the disk imaging options. You can't recreate a disk from just the partition contents as a disk contains structures not in any partition - especially true if you want to make a bootable disk. If you actually want a huge RAW file such as would be produced by dd from the entire disk, then I don't think Clonezilla can do this.

Once a disk starts to go bad, especially an old one, it can longer be trusted. Replacement is your best option, whilst you are still able to copy any wanted data off the bad disk.

Try emptying the Trash bin. Do the downloads fail because you have virtually no free space? If so, Delete some unwanted data files or move them temporarily(?) to offline storage.

Just a thought- Since you are using Windows, your process would allow you to run two PC's whilst only paying for one Windows licence. Perhaps Microsoft are preventing this. I haven't used Windows for about 10 years, though...
