I don’t think baselight will do what you want anyway (but it’s v expensive just for offline file transcoding anyways!) i had another alternative slightly out-of-the-box thought… what about transcoding to a good h264 (8Mb/sec) mov using ffmpeg to get the timecode right and doing it fast send that to the remote machine over FTP/whatever then on remote machine have a watch folder that then transcodes back to AVID 25Mb/sec xdcam or DNX36 MXFs using already known working ffmpeg/writeavidmxf methodology...

I got nowhere with the mjpeg/jfif route sadly. I think all the software involved really needs it to be 720x576 and at defined AVR avid standards. I terms of practical alternatives for you...have you tried Blackmagic Resolve? This is usually very fast (GPU dependant) ,will write to avid mxf and may allow you to do an h264 in op-atom mxf quickly it will work with camera files natively so it may be worth a go. I'm not 100% sure about the resolve stuff as I use baselight- but baselight is NOT free (not...

ok cool if you can just upload a few seconds of the AVID h264 file here - for me to get, and i'll see if I can help out with making it externally but at a higher bitrate and using ffmpeg/bmx I'm on os x 10.11.6 with media composer 18.9.0 (i guess that's 2018.9) so if i get it to work it'll be tested in that version of media composer.... j

hiya- firstly sorry for late response, I have not been doing much like this recently (i have gone on to doing HDR in the baselight which has filled my head up.. .:-)) so, just to be sure what you're after, if you are still interested, is 1920x1080 8Mbps MJPEG or something functionally equivalent? what would that have to be viewed/used on? just an avid or other stuff too? Is it just to keep down storage/bandwidth requirements? I found DNX36 worked quite well at HD so i never tried anything less! I'm...

this stuff should run on 10.11.4 (no promises past that sorry!) and isn't the most recent build but may work for you need anyway. The programs AND libraries needed are in there hopefully you may need to manually move the libraries to the correct place for yourself. hope this helps a bit... j

just in case James or anyone else still wants to do this kind of thing,i've messed about and done it successfully using ffmpeg,yuv422_to_mjpeg and writeavidmxf all on OS X as that's my weapon of choice. the .zip here is a folder with the 3 binaries above for os x and a python script which works python meridian_maker.py /path/to/file/to/convert basically... ffmpeg makes rawvideo at SD size and writes that to a named pipe yuv_to_mjpeg takes that pipe in and makes the avid mjpeg essence (so we don't...
