Thanks, this is very encouraging. For a first time user it is difficult to find basic information to get started.. I am not sure yet that it is fully functional, the GUI comes up but there is no menu items on it (such as Project-Mesh etc.) as shown in the attachment. There seems to be a text box but I can enter anything in it. And how do you run it remotely?

Hi, I just installed MaxFEM. Using Ubuntu 16.04LTS I installed as required all of the prerequisites, I edited ./code/wx_version.py to and made the change to wxversion.select("2.8"), and all built correctly.
