Hi Tiziana, Since (i think ?) you are performing your -max operation along the time coordinate, the time coordinate is not a clearly defined quantity. ncra tries its best and for time coordinate returns the average regardless of the -y operation specified. It sounds like this is not happening form your file. Please put your file in an accessible place and il take a closer look. Also please not the version of NCO you are using. ncks -r will give the answer ...Henry

hi Han, try the following command ! Make sure that the number of characters on the RHS is exactly 19 or it will fail ncap2 -O -A -s 'Times(0,:)="2003-09-07_00:00:00";' in.nc in.nc replace in.nc with your filename ....Henry

Hi Han, The normal CF convention for time is the string ( year|month|day|hour|minutes|seconds since blah-blah-date) e.g time@units="days since 2001-1-01" time@units="hours since 1900-01-01 10:00:0.0" Times = "2003-09-09_00:00:00" It sound like you have data with time origin "2003-09-09_00:00:00" and you want to change the origin to 2003-09-10_12:00:00. (ie subtract 36 hours ). But I cannot really tell. Can you please post an ncdump of your file. Thanks ...Henry

if you want to specify coordinate limits you should use floating point values rather than integers which specify hyperslab limits try ncks -F -d depth,0.0,10.0 mean_TEMP_198501.nc test.nc not sure about your hdf error -- need mor einfo ...Henry

Hi Katherina, I know little abound cdo. it could be that you have not added a "time@bounds" attribute. try ncatted -a bounds,time,o,c,"time_bnds" out.nc If you have a recent version f NCO it should include the ncap2 function "make_bounds". to see if its present try "ncap2 -f| grep make_bounds" so now you ncap2 command line looks something like: ncap2 -v -O -s 'defdim("bnds",2); time_bnds=make_bounds(time,$bnds,"time_bnds"); in.nc out.nc ...Henry
