I've the same issue. I've uninstalled the windows update mentioned, and it works fine now.

After MultiHasher found only SHA-1 I included SHA-256 and SAH-512 too and did a new search. Again MultHasher found only the SHA-1. Now I've restarted MultiHasher and checked the three SHA in front to find them the first search, and now MultHasher has found the SHA-256 and SHA-512 too. I've found a solution: if I use the "nircmd shellrefresh" command from the Nirsoft suite, the desktop icons refresh oke.

I download sometimes mp3 files and in some cases they are on this way deliverd. I use Freac to convert them and then copy them back over the original files.
